The Kmart Wishing TreeĀ® Appeal is Australia's largest Christmas gift appeal. The appeal has distributed more than 4.5 million gifts to people in need over the past 20 years. Established by Kmart, the appeal supports some of Australia's largest welfare organisations including Charity Link and The Salvation Army in Western Australia. Christmas Wishing Trees are located in every Kmart store in Western Australia and are the collection points for gift donations. Last year over 25,000 toys were donated by generous Western Australians via the dedicated staff at Kmart stores to Charity Link. This year they are aiming for 34,000! To participate, simply place a gift under the Wishing Tree located at the front of any Kmart store. Take a gift tag from the tree that identifies the appropriate age and gender of a suitable recipient and place it with your gift. Make sure you also take a 'thank you' gift tag to hang on your Christmas tree at home. Gifts for the appeal do not need to be bought from Kmart. Stores simply act as facilitators for the welfare groups to reach the wider public. Now an Australian Christmas tradition, the appeal gives the Kmart family the opportunity to contribute to those in need in the community - and to make a real difference. Charity Link is grateful to Kmart for providing the opportunity for all Western Australians to give and ensure that every child receives a gift this Christmas.
