Christmas Appeal 2008

Western Power Charitylink Christmas Appeal 2008

The Western Power Charity Link Christmas Appeal aims to ensure there is a smile on every childs’ face on Christmas morning and all West Australians can enjoy a complete Christmas meal.

Publicly donated Christmas toys are collected through school and workplace collections, gift wrapping stalls and Kmart’s The Wishing TreeTMAppeal.  Toys are sorted and distributed to children according to age and gender to ensure the appropriateness of the gifts to the child. Many of Charity Link’s members invite parents to select from a range of gifts provided by Charity Link to ensure that Christmas feels as normal as possible for these families, while others hold community parties to share the Christmas spirit.

Christmas food hampers are packed centrally by dedicated volunteers according to family size.  Each hamper is packed with the aim to provide a complete Christmas meal, and consists of food items purchased in bulk. By purchasing food in bulk we are able to capitalise on wholesale prices to ensure the hampers we provide are consistent and that every dollar donated goes further to helping West Australians in need.  That is, the recommended retail price of an 800g Christmas Cake is $8.97, however, Charity Link can purchase almost two of the same cakes at a wholesale price of $4.97.

Once assembled, hampers are transported across the state and issued prior to Christmas Day by the Charity Link member agencies.

"It is entirely logical for these appeals to be undertaken as a collaborative effort, as it prevents duplication of services, competition for donors and ensures every dollar goes further," Kevin Campbell, Chairman Lotterywest.
